Teen arrested in connection with ‘security threat’ at Wyvern St Edmund’s

Wiltshire Police Officers have arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of communicating false information.

The arrest came after a threatening email was received by a member of staff at Wyvern St Edmund’s, and the decision was made to close the school.

The school’s staff made the tough decision to close the school along with Magna Learning Partnership. The trust said, “The Trust emphasises the importance of treating such matters seriously.

“The Trust acknowledges the significant disruption this incident has caused to both students and staff and is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.”

Wiltshire Police said in a statement, “The youngster is currently in police custody and there is not thought to be any ongoing threat to pupils or staff at the school.

Meanwhile, Wyvern St Edmunds has announced that the school will reopen tomorrow (11th January). A message to parents, seen by Salisbury Radio, from headteacher Louise Henderson, said, “Following a comprehensive police investigation throughout the day that is still ongoing, the potential security threat that has been found to be a hoax and is being dealt with as a police matter.

They have now given the all-clear for a safe return. The hoax is not connected to any member of our school community.”

Wiltshire Police have said that pupils and members of members of the public will notice an increased police presence at the school tomorrow, where officers will be conducting reassurance patrols.
