Road to be closed in Ford to allow bridge repairs

A bridge in Ford that was damaged when it was struck by a vehicle will cause the road through the village to be closed for 15 days.

The road is the shortest link between Ford and the Winterbournes and the London road and A338. It will lead to those living on either side of the village having a long diversion to get around the closure.

Laverstock & Ford Parish Council spokesperson said, “The concrete parapet at Ford Bridge was struck by a vehicle in early August, and temporary warning signs and barriers were subsequently erected around the damaged area.

“Since this time, a suitable method for repair has been agreed with the Highways contractor, and arrangements have been made with all relevant parties.

“These repair works will include removing large sections of debris from the watercourse, erecting a temporary scaffold to provide a safe working area, and then removing any loose material from the parapet.

“Once prepared, the parapet will then be carefully built up with concrete and allowed to set.

“Following this, the site will be cleared/tidied, and road reopened. To all intents and purposes, the appearance of the bridge will remain unaltered.

“The above activities will necessitate a 15-day road closure to all traffic over the bridge, which will commence from the 16/10/23 until the 03/11/23.”
