Progress Bar opening postponed

It was announced earlier this week that the new inclusive bar for Salisbury would be opening on Friday, 18th November, but this has now been postponed.

In a statement on their social media, the team behind the bar made the following statement.

“It brings us great sadness to announce that the grand opening has been postponed by local authorities advice, and therefore we can not open to the public.

“The team at Progress Cafe Bar have been working tirelessly around the clock to bring an inclusive and warm space for all to Salisbury and are absolutely gutted of these circumstances beyond our control.

A spokesperson for the venue told Salisbury Radio that there were complications with the classification of the building as a venue.

Previously the building had a status as a venue able to serve people alcohol and food, but in England, from 1st September 2020, changes were made to the Use Classes Order; all “A” classes are now revoked and have been replaced with “E” classes.

Because the building was unoccupied during this period, it appears that the process for this to have happened has not been completed.

The team behind Progress is working hard to come up with a solution but may need help.
