Pembroke Park turns around Ofsted grading in short time

Pembroke Park Primary School was graded as Inadequate just 16 months ago but is a school transformed, according to Ofsted.

Ofsted stated that the “exceptional leadership of the headteacher has been instrumental in the rapid turnaround of the school”, as they graded the school as good.

In the previous inspection in July 2022, the school was criticised in several areas, resulting in an inadequate grade.

Under the leadership of Headteacher Toni Hayzen, Pembroke Park achieved this feat in just 16 months, a testament to the unwavering commitment of school leaders, staff and Magna Learning Partnership.

The school, now described by inspectors as “a family where everyone is welcomed,” joined the Magna Learning Partnership in 2020 with a history of underachievement. It was noted that pupils are “well-behaved, polite and considerate” and learn in an environment that has “high aspirations” for all.

Pupils shared their experiences of how the school has improved over that period, saying they are proud of their school and that through their pupil parliament, they have an active voice and take on roles of responsibility.

Alun Richards, Magna Learning Partnership’s Director of Education Primary (South Hub), said, “We are extremely pleased as a Trust with the outcome for the pupils at Pembroke Park. The hard work and dedication shown by the leadership team, staff, governors, School Improvement Team and Trustees has been wonderful.  We look forward as a Trust to continuing to be aspirational for the families and community, within this vibrant academy.

Pupils also stated that they have seen improved behaviour, saying it has ‘improved so much as we have mutual respect of everyone’.

Ofsted said, “The curriculum is ambitious. Pupils enthusiastically try their best in their learning and produce high-quality work.”

Ian Tucker, CEO of Magna Learning Partnership, expressed immense pride, stating, “I would like to thank everyone involved for their inspirational leadership and tireless efforts in leading the staff and community to this outcome. Magna Learning Partnership is delighted to have played such a strong part in the journey that Pembroke Park has been on over the years, and we look forward to the next exciting chapter.”
