GE Interviews: Julian Malins – Reform UK

Julian Malins, the Reform UK candidate for Salisbury, says they want to change they way the country deals with legal migration.

He claims that the Conservative Party take farmers’ votes for granted and that there needs to be changes.

He also spoke about the issues that affect Salisbury, including our rivers and helping Salisbury City Council manage its budget, which are among his big three priorities for the city.

He said, “I think it’s now emerged that the city council is verging on bankruptcy. I served on the Finance Committee of the City of London Corporation, which is a unitary authority and actually the oldest continuous democratic elected authority in the world.

“The lesson I would urge the Salisbury City councillors to learn is that they should closely cross-examine all the officers on all expenditure to uncover waste and to direct expenditure to live within the means of the Council.

“I can bring a great deal of experience to help with that.

“Now, there are other priorities, of course, it is Reform UK policy to part-nationalise utilities. At the top of that list are the water companies as well as the energy companies. But with the water companies that has been a disaster because privately owned companies in this country have the directors have a legal duty to maximize profits for shareholders.

“That will have to change. They must be purpose-driven and not profit-driven.

Reform UK, will part nationalize – 50% owned by the state, by all of us, and 50% owned by the UK financial institutions.

“Speaking as a fisherman, I’ve observed, it’s just my observation, that my particularly favourite river, as you would expect, is Wylie, which seems to me to be lower in its water levels generally than it has been in the past, and I fear there may be illegal water extraction. So we’ll be all over that issue.

“Finally, the agricultural sector is front and centre of our manifesto. The bottom line is that the Conservatives take farmers for granted. They tick them off as farmers will vote conservative. We don’t need to bother about them. We don’t take that view at all.”
