Downton house to be lit up for local food bank

A house in Downton is to shine bright this Christmas, with 10,000 lights twinkling away to help out the local food bank.

Andy Savage and his family turn on the lights this Saturday, all in aid of ‘The Larder’ food bank, which is connected to the Downton Baptist Church.

The lights will be switched on for the first time at 6 pm this Saturday and will be on daily from 5 pm until 9 pm.

There will be a collection point outside the house for donations to the food bank and a Facebook fundraising page – https://www.facebook.com/donate/541194860873032/589352886526446/

Here is a list of the type of items that the food bank can accept:

  • Lion-stamped eggs with clean shells and a use-by date.
  • Tins, jars and dried foods
  • Household products
  • Hygiene products
  • Drinks
  • *All food must be fully labelled and intact.

Please do not donate any of the following items:

  • Cooked food from your home or unregistered sources
  • Unpasteurised milk
  • Cooked rice
