Date revealed for Boathouse to reopen as Elai

Salisbury’s newest Indian restaurant is due to open on Wednesday, 2nd August, at midday.

Serving a selection of Southern Indian cuisine, the restaurant is named “Elai”.

Elai translates into English as meaning “a leaf”. In South India, there has been a long-standing tradition of serving food on banana leaves which is considered quite healthy and authentic. These thick big leaves are huge enough to serve a multi-course meal.

Co-owner Nidhin Satheesan, who also manages Elai in Basingstoke, confirmed that although it’s a “soft launch”, the restaurant will be open to everyone.

The building has been closed since February when the previous occupants cited the River Park Project as being one of the reasons for them leaving the building and the business not going as well as expected.

The new owners are aware of the risk and don’t think it will cause too many issues an are confident for the future of Elai.
