Salisbury District Hospital has confirmed the death of a patient who had tested positive for COVID-19 and died on Wednesday 9th February.

A spokesperson for Salisbury District Hospital said, “Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Wednesday 9th February. The patient was in his 70s and had underlying health conditions.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

The hospital report that they are still experiencing a high number of COVID-19 positive patients with 29 COVID-19 positive patients currently being treated at the hospital. 243 patients in total have now passed away.

“We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission. We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get the first vaccine.”
