World Championship motorsport on Salisbury’s doorstep this weekend

Cusses Gorse on the edge of Salisbury is hosting the World Motor Cross Side Car championships this weekend.

The circuit just off Amesbury Road, near High Post, will host the best of the best teams competing in the world championship.

Brett Wilkinson and Joe Millard

It’s 13 years since there was a British GP leg of the World Championships.

Brett Wilkinson, from Portsmouth, and his passenger Joe Millard, from Frome in Somerset, are currently fourth in the World Sidecarcross Championship.

The pair will compete at Cusses Gorse Moto Park in Salisbury this weekend on Saturday, 29th and Sunday, 30th July.

Brett Wilkinson told the BBC, “For the last thirteen years, I’ve been riding grand prix and every time we had to go to Dover and Calais. So it’s nice to drive here,”

Practice & qualification takes place on Saturday, with the main race action taking place on Sunday.

Etienne Bax and Ondrej Cermak, Current World Champions

Brad Skeates, the event organiser, said, “I’ve been up there today, and the track looks fantastic. Justin Barclay has prepared a magnificent venue for one of Cusses Gorse’s last-ever meetings. There’s no better way to go out than at the top with a British GP.”

As well as the on-track action, there will be off track entertainment on both Friday & Saturday evenings.

Camping is available for Friday & Saturday nights only.
