Train disruption expected to last the whole week

South Western Railway (SWR) is warning us to expect disruption through Salisbury’s train station until the end of the week.

A reduced timetable is currently in place due to a problem with the fuel systems on trains that run between Basingstoke and Exeter and from Salisbury to Southampton Central via Romsey.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day on Friday, 28th April.

This is a continuation of the issues we reported at the end of last week, meaning there are no direct trains to London Waterloo.

– Services between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids will run between Salisbury and Exeter St Davids only. Trains may have to run at reduced speed between these stations, and due to the single line sections along this route, trains may be delayed awaiting to pass a train in the opposite direction.

– A shuttle service will operate between Salisbury and Basingstoke.

If you require a train between London Waterloo and Basingstoke, you are advised to board one of our services between London Waterloo and Weymouth, Poole and Portsmouth via Eastleigh or a stopping service to Basingstoke.

To assist you with your journey, tickets will be accepted at no extra cost to yourself:
– GWR services between Exeter St Davids and London Paddington
-GWR services between Salisbury and Exeter
-TFL services between London Waterloo and London Paddington

Stuart Meek, SWR’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We’re very sorry for the disruption that will be felt by our customers on the West of England Line, in the Romsey area and other destinations west of Salisbury.

“With fewer trains available and a risk of delays, which would have a knock-on effect on the wider network, we have had to make the difficult decision to operate an amended timetable. While we appreciate it is frustrating that fewer services will be operating, this timetable does give our customers a service they can have confidence in.

“We really appreciate our customers’ patience and advise them to check before travelling. We will provide an update when we know we can reinstate the usual timetable and run services as normal.”
