Thruxton to take step back in time with Historic Weekend

Thruxton will take a step back in time when the Hampshire circuit near Andover welcomes the annual Historic Historic cars meeting next weekend (17/18 June).

The finest historic and classic racing machines will roar into action at the UK’s fastest race track over the two days along with plenty for the family to enjoy.

Early Formula 2, Historic and Classic F3s, Formula Atlantic and FF2000, will come back to life as they battle it out for the honours in the single-seater headline Jochen Rindt Trophy.

The must-see cars of Germany’s Marc Sydow in the ex-Allan Rollinson/Emerson Fittipaldi Lotus Racing Limited 69F2 and Oliver Mathai in the Rindt Lotus 59B will feature in the showcase races.

Benn Tilley will also be reunited with his 2020 Classic F3 championship winning March 743 Toyota in its British Air Ferries livery, which was piloted by Brian Henton and Rupert Keegan back in the day.

Henley-on-Thames driver Ben Hudson will be behind the wheel of Mike Korten’s 1978 March 783 F3 Toyota Novamotor and Neil Jenkins will feature in the ex-Beppe Gabbiani F3 Chevron B38 Toyota Novamotor.

Qualifying for the Jochen Rindt Trophy takes place on Saturday morning followed by a 20-minute race in the afternoon and a second race on Sunday as drivers try to win the coveted accolade.

The Thruxton Historic, which began back in 2018, will also see classic Ferraris showcase their pace when the Superformance Ferrari Club Classic Series compete over the weekend with qualifying and race one on Saturday followed by two races on Sunday.

The Mighty Minis with compact, modified versions of the classic Cooper take to the tarmac on Saturday and Sunday, as do the single-seater HSCC Historic Formula Ford 2000s with cars built between 1974 and 1981 powered by the 2-litre Ford engines.

FISCAR, featuring stunning motors from the 1950s, will race on Saturday, and the CMMC Classic Challenge will roll back the years with cars from the 1950s to 1970s on Sunday.Thruxton Historic

Off the track, spectators can get up close to some of the iconic and rare machinery with free access to the paddock area and soak up the atmosphere as various car clubs from across the country display their classic and vintage motors, including the Aston Martin Owners’ Club and the Ferrari Owners’ Club of Great Britain.

There is lots of entertainment for families, too, with face painting, bouncy castles and fairground rides, a busy trade village as well as live music. Camping is also available for the weekend and is free.

Tickets are available online via the Thruxton website www.thruxtonracing.co.uk, with the gates opening at 8 am on both days. Adult tickets are £21 for each day; a weekend ticket is £37.

Children 15 and under accompanied by an adult (max 5 children per responsible adult) are admitted to the circuit and paddock (providing the responsible adult is still accompanying them) free of charge.

As an added bonus, all public advance ticket holders will be entered into a draw for a chance to win a ride in one of the sportscars in Thruxton’s fleet.

Tickets are available for the grandstand but are a separate ticket and do not allow admission to the circuit. Children aged five and under are permitted to sit on a parent/guardian’s lap and are therefore admitted free of charge.
