Thief jailed after stealing from 36 cars in the space of four months

A prolific thief has been jailed for stealing from dozens of cars parked at beauty spots.

Appearing before Salisbury Crown Court on Friday (25th February 2022), Lenny Wells, 34, of Eyres Way, Salisbury, was sentenced to four years imprisonment after being found guilty of conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles.

The court had heard that Wells had broken into a total of 36 cars between February 2021 and June 2021 over five counties across the south of England.

Offences took place in Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and Devon.

During the trial, recorder Don Tait told the court that Wells was a prolific thief whose offending was persistent and targeted – smashing the windows of cars parked at beauty spots and stealing valuables.

Detective Constable Jem Horner said, “This is a sentence which reflects the seriousness of the repeated offending by Wells.

“This is the fourth time that Wells has been convicted of this offence since 2013.

“I hope this sends a strong message that we will not tolerate such blatant disregard of the law and of the emotional and financial consequences that result from these actions.

“The team that helped put this investigation together have worked hard to bring Wells to justice and I’m pleased that their efforts are reflected in this outcome. I hope this will bring some comfort to the numerous victims in this case.”
