Some of the best art produced by artists at British art schools and universities is currently on display in Salisbury.
The Graduate Art Show has arrived at the Vanner Gallery on Salisbury’s High Street, showcasing the work of some of the country’s most talented up-and-coming artists.
The exhibition features work by 20 recent graduates from some of the UK’s top art schools.
The show, launched at the Woolff Gallery and The William Gallery in London, has now arrived in Salisbury.
The exhibition launched last Thursday (11th January) with a private view, and the artworks will be on display until Friday, 16th February.
A range of art is on display, with paintings, sculptures, prints, and ceramics selected from hundreds of submissions from 38 participating universities.
Two of the competition judges are Salisbury-based, with Vanner Gallery owner David Christie and local architect and artist Tim Scrace among the panel who select the finalists.
David Christie from the Vanner Gallery says everyone should head in to see the art, “It’s a chance to bring artwork that we wouldn’t ordinarily be shown here (in Salisbury). We are the only iteration of the show that exists outside of London.
“There is this physiological barrier before people go into an art gallery. They can look unintentionally exclusive. We try and pride ourselves on trying to invite people in and look. I want people to come in and look and enjoy the work; there is no obligation or compulsion to buy anything, or course there isn’t.”
