Salisbury’s Cake Forge to close

The Cake Forge, based in Salisbury’s Maltings, will close after health issues for one co-owner.

The cake makers and decorators have been operating in Salisbury for seven years. They also supply local bakers with the tools of the trade and advice, making the announcement on their social media.

The Cake Forge is run by Dan and Kate Mills. Dan, an ex-graphic designer, was the artist behind the cakes and judge of the Salisbury Bake Off competition that forms part of Taste Salisbury.

They said that having survived through Novichok and the Covid pandemic that followed. They recently discovered that Dan had a heart attack and has impending bypass surgery. This, amongst other reasons, led to the decision to close.

The shop will close its doors for the final time on Saturday 30th September. Their statement said: “It’s with heavy heart we have had to make the difficult decision to close(d) the shop from the 30th September.

“This is due to a number of reasons the main one is we found out last week Dan has suffered a heart attack and now as to have heart bypass. Without Dan’s incredible cakes our business just will not survive.

The financial world has made things extremely difficult and of course the whole of Salisbury is being dug up.

“We have kept going through Novichok and pandemic and given ur all for the last 7 years.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support over the years, we have made some incredible cakes for some amazing people”
