Salisbury & Winchester Crown Courts wins prestigious national award

Salisbury Crown Court, along with Winchester, has been recognised for their work during the pandemic, which saw them cover more than 80 trials on behalf of 16 Crown Courts located across the South of England.

The Inspire Justice Awards judging panel was impressed by the hard work and dedication shown by Salisbury and Winchester Crown Courts staff to tackle outstanding case numbers increased by COVID-19 and keep the wheels of justice turning.

In addition to supporting the Crown Courts that were closed during the pandemic, Salisbury and Winchester Crown Courts once again stepped into the breach to support cases from Swindon Crown Court when 2 of its courtrooms needed to temporarily close earlier this year.

“Winchester and Salisbury Crown courts never stopped working during pandemic in order to provide assistance to other courts across the region,” says Svetlana Orriss, Delivery Manager at Winchester and Salisbury Crown Courts.

“This was a unique and unprecedented situation when one team was able to provide the required assistance not just to one or two other courts, but 16 courts in total.

“Due to the team’s great team spirit, they were able to make a positive difference supporting other courts to address the increased number of outstanding court cases. This has helped bring about the delivery of justice for the people involved in these cases, including victims and their families.”
