Salisbury to trek to Plymouth for tricky fixture

Salisbury FC face a long and tricky trip to Plymouth Parkway for their fixture this weekend.

Brian Dutton’s side faces the 270-mile round trip to Parkway’s Bolitho Park with two frustrating draws behind them when holding a winning position going into the dying moments of the games.

Last time out, it was Didcot Town who snatched a draw deep into injury time when Salisbury themselves had grabbed what looked like a winner after the normal 90 minutes had been played.

It was deja vu, as Salisbury had gone from a winning position in their previous game away at Gosport Borough, scoring what could have been a late winner being cancelled out in injury time.

Dutton will be hoping to welcome back some of his side’s walking wounded as the team head toward the business end of the season.

Salisbury still sit in second place in the Southern League Premier South table, four points ahead of Gosport, but Borough have two games in hand.

Parkway, on the other hand, are having a tricky season and currently sits in the bottom four, having lost their last two games against Beaconsfield Town and, most recently, Basingstoke Town.

They lost the game away to the Hampshire side 1-0, the third game in a row that they have failed to score.

Brian Dutton now believes Salisbury’s target has to be to finish second. He believes that Chesham, who lead the league, are beyond reach with Salisbury heading into their final ten games of the regular season.

The team that finishes second have the advantage of playing their playoff games at home, including the final, if they get that far.

Salisbury’s next three fixtures include a top-of-the-table clash with Chesham United on Saturday 9th March at the Ray Mac.
