Salisbury student to launch youth magazine

Ryan Warden, a student who lives in Amesbury and attends St Joseph’s school in Salisbury, is launching a youth magazine, Vibe.

Ryan is working alongside Salisbury Radio on the project as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and wants to give young people in Salisbury a bigger voice.

Vibe will be written and created by young people in the Salisbury and South Wiltshire area, but he appreciates that he can’t do this alone.

Salisbury Radio is supporting Ryan in his project, providing advice and logistical support. The project aims to print 2,000 copies of the magazine three times a year.

Any students in South Wiltshire currently in year 9 or above at school or sixth form can get involved, and the only requirement is an interest in writing, photographing or talking about subjects that are locally relevant to young people in Salisbury and the surrounding areas.

Ryan explained why he wanted to start the project, “The city of Salisbury desperately needs something that the younger generation WANTS to read rather than constantly seeing articles about financial struggles and inflation plastered everywhere, and nothing that they can read and relate to.

We want teenagers to be appreciated instead of forgotten.

I am doing this because I strongly believe that all young people need to be inspired and recognised for what they do.

“We plan to create an eye-catching magazine that young people will want to read and learn about what they can do and what others have been doing.

“We also aspire to create a podcast for young people to listen to and maybe even cover shows and other local events.”

The project will also launch a website and podcast content, which will be led by the team of young people working on the project.

It is free to get involved with the project.

Andy Munns, a director at Salisbury Radio, said, “We are delighted to be supporting Ryan with his project. It’s an exciting proposition, and we can’t wait to see what is produced.

“Ryan comes at this with a lot of energy and a desire to make things happen. How could we not say yes?”
