Salisbury Playhouse prepare for first production of the autumn season

Salisbury Playhouse welcomed Ian Kelsey and Nicola Sloane to Salisbury yesterday (30th August) to begin rehearsals for John Godber’s September in the Rain, their first production of the Autumn season.

The show by John Godber will run from Thursday 16th September – Saturday 9th October at Salisbury Playhouse and rather aptly celebrates the heyday of the Great British Staycation.

Set in 1950s Blackpool, newly-wed Yorkshire couple, Jack (played by Ian Kelsey, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Blue Murder) and Liz (played by Nicola Sloane, Call the Midwife and Les Misérables) have crossed the Pennines for their first trip to the seaside mecca.

For thirty years, come rain or shine, they have never missed their annual week-long holiday on the Blackpool sands. Three decades of boarding houses, talent contests and fish and chips on the prom.

The show moves forwards and backwards through time, revealing a tale of married life from squabbles and children, to laughter and tears, all against the backdrop of the British seaside.

Gareth Machin is back in the director’s chair and is feeling enthusiastic about welcoming audiences back again.

“It’s wonderful for Wiltshire Creative to return to its roots and create our own work again after nearly a year. What better way than with September in the Rain (conveniently scheduled in September!) where people can come and escape the autumn blues and recapture some seaside holiday spirit with this joyful and evocative play”.

Book your tickets for what promises to be a wonderful performance here.
