Salisbury grab all three points after a good battle

Salisbury took all three points from the Wiltshire derby thanks to a brace from James Harding in the first half.

Charlie Gunson added Salisbury’s third in the second half, and it was enough to see off Supermarine, who fought back well in the second half.

Salisbury started the first half quickly, with Josh Hedges shot well saved by Charley Searle in the Supermarine goal, putting the ball behind for a corner on 8 minutes.

Salisbury kept on the pressure with successive corners, and the second paid dividends.

A good corner came in from the right, with Jombati rising highest at the back post. His header was blocked, and the ball eventually found its way to James Harding, who hammered home from inside the 6-yard box to give Salisbury the lead on 9 minutes.

Salisbury and Harding doubled their tally for the evening just five minutes later when a clearance ricocheted to the ex-Supermarine forward to apply an instant finish.

The Whites thought they had added a third through Theo Lewis. Some good play down the left-hand side of the penalty area led to a cross that Lewis could only guide into the side netting from close range.

Salisbury controlled the game well. On the one time they were stretched by the away side, Jombati did well to be aware of the danger at the back post, taking the ball off the toes of the Swindon forward and denying a tap-in.

Home supporters, we’re calling for a Salisbury penalty with 10 minutes to go until halftime. Noah Coppin had been enjoying the first half and regularly had the beating of right-back Sam Turl. He looked to drift past him in the box on this occasion and went down. Referee Staynings waved away the appeal, however.

Salisbury thoroughly deserved their two-nil half-time lead.

It was the away side who were fastest out of the blocks in the second half, and in symmetry with the first half, it only took until the 8th minute of the half to see a goal.

It was Supermarine in the ascendency, and they bagged their first of the game on 53 minutes when Tumelty reacted fast enough to a Josh Gloud block to score.

Salisbury nearly reestablished their two-goal cushion just a minute later, but Searle saved well from Harding.

Salisbury did get their third of the game on 65 minutes. A long ball forward, and Fitchett worked hard to make something of it. He laid the ball off for Charlie Gunson to slot home into the bottom left-hand corner from 20 yards.

Gunson almost grabbed a second from a free kick just two minutes later, but Searle was equal to it, diving to his left to push it away.

There was a grandstand finish, and Supermarine continued to push, and they got their reward on 89 minutes when they got their second of the game.

Again, it was a rebound finish after a good save from Gould; this time, Levi Irving was the fastest to react and apply the finish.

Salisbury were able to see the game out and wrapped up their second win in two games and now have seven points from nine and keep their unbeaten start to the season.

Salisbury travel to Hendon on Saturday for their next game. A 3 pm kick-off.
