Brian Dutton’s Salisbury FC were held to a goalless draw by Yate Town at the Ray Mac on Saturday afternoon.
New signing Nassim Kherbouche made his debut for the Whites in central defence, with Gillela giving way.
It wasn’t a game that will live long in the memories of either set of fans as both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances.
The best chance of the half, however, came Salisbury’s way. Sam Ashton was unable to keep his shot down from a Calvin Brook’s cross.
Defence was definitely on top as the sides reached the break level.
The second half was made of the same stuff as the first, with both defences looking unlikely to be breached.
Yate did have a chance to steal it five minutes from time, though. After a cross came in from the right Gerard Benfield’s punch clear dropped kindly to Dennis Digie. However, he could only shoot straight back to the Salisbury ‘keeper.
Salisbury created the best chance of the game almost immediately after. Dan Fitchett picked out Devon Arnold, whose shot crashed against the crossbar.
It ended in a stalemate and a frustrating afternoon for everyone associated with Salisbury.
Salisbury FC Women, however, have no problem scoring goals right now. On Sunday at the Ray Mac, they ran out 4-1 winners over Trowbridge Wanderers Ladies.
Over 100 supporters watched on as Evie Cummings, Rachel Lang, Deyna Davie and Leanne Griffith-Lower score the goals for the Whites.
