Royal Navy serviceman goes “above and beyond” for Salisbury District Hospital

Air Engineering Technician, George Russ, has been awarded a special commendation for his work in the Acute Medical Unit at Salisbury District Hospital during the Coronavirus pandemic.

During the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, Salisbury District Hospital told Love Salisbury they received a tremendous amount of support from the Military who worked with hospital staff and helped provide care to patients during a very challenging time.

One of those who stepped in to support the hospital staff was George Russ, who made a huge difference to both staff and patients during his time spent on the unit.

After being nominated by the hospital’s Chaplaincy Team for bringing comfort to a patient towards the end of their life, George has been awarded a special commendation.

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, Stacey Hunter, said: “We owe a debt of gratitude to George, and to all the military personnel who came to our assistance when we needed extra support. They really became part of the team and helped our staff and patients through the peak of the pandemic.”
