Plan to repair damaged bridge in Ford during school holidays

Wiltshire Council’s Highways team has set out the plan for repairing the bridge in Ford.

The bridge was damaged after being hit by a school bus during the recent cold weather on January 8th.

Following an inspection, temporary warning signs and steel barriers have been put in place on the damaged areas of the bridge.

The repair work is expected to mean a 15-day road closure to all traffic over the bridge.

The repairs will include carrying out the following: removing debris from the watercourse, erecting a temporary scaffold, and casting new concrete sections.

The parapet will be rebuilt, and upon completion, the site will be cleared/tidied, and the road will be reopened. The bridge’s appearance will remain unaltered.

Subject to gaining all necessary permissions, the Council intends to start these works on the 2^nd of April to coincide with the school holidays and minimise disruption to the highway network.
