This event has been postponed, for more details click here.

People in the Park returns to Queen Elizabeth Gardens on Saturday 17th September to bring the conversation of a more ethical and sustainable Salisbury to the forefront.

Building on the resounding success of last year the organisers, Salisbury Transition City, have planned for a more ambitious and larger-scale event. This year’s programme is set to include over 40 organisations presenting, showing and demonstrating their services and community activities.

Entry is free from 10am until 4 pm and visitors will be rewarded with a continuous programme of live music, entertainment, discussion, and talks from a wide range of community, sustainability, and environmental groups.

All of this will be performed on and around two eco-friendly-powered stages. This year both stages will be driven by electric car hook-up with the stored energy having been supplied from sustainable energy sources. This arrangement has been possible through using a system called EV2Power that enables electric car batteries to be used as a valid replacement for fossil fuel generators. This innovation allows electric cars to become clean and green-effective mobile power stations.

Main stage acts already booked include Ribble, Somehow I’m Home, Becca Maule and Ukulele Vagabond, amongst others.

This year also again features a ‘youth stage’ that gives a great chance for young local acts to perform. Becca Maule, a local 18-year-old musician, has been in charge of curating, managing and running the Youth Stage at People in the Park for the last 2 years.

With environmental matters, especially related to energy and fossil fuels, now assuming an imperative and urgent presence in public life, ‘People in the Park’ will feature many opportunities to hear, learn and discuss community, environmental and sustainability issues. A notable key speaker, Jen Gale, author of sustainable(ish), will sharing some top tips on how to embrace imperfect eco-action. Also, Wessex Water will have a representative present to discuss aspects of the unfavourable environmental news associated with the water industry.

The event will also give those active in the community and those with environmental concerns, the opportunity for networking, learning and setting up potential future working partnerships. This all helps generate even greater local synergy and helps those present, by acting in accord and co-operation, bring about a more ethical, just and sustainable future for Salisbury.

The event will also feature many stalls from local community groups, charities, artists, crafters and eco-businesses with well over 40 stalls booked for the event.

Just some of the attractions booked so far include Salisbury Wildlife, Blueberry Den, Muse Hairdressing, Salisbury & Wilton Swifts, The Pantry Partnership, Share Salisbury, Sisters Wardrobe and the popular Salisbury Repair Café.

Salisbury City Council and Wiltshire Creative will all be making an appearance and other community groups will be showcasing their creative solutions to making life in Salisbury more rewarding and sustainable.

For those needing refreshment Pizza Venti, Lah Koh & The Pantry Partnership providing food and drinks.

Bradley Thompson, co-director of STC commented, “People in the Park was so brilliant last year and such a great way to say thank you to the community for all the amazing things that people were getting together to achieve, especially during such a difficult time.

“This year we wanted to come back bigger, better and even more fun than last time and I think we have achieved that! We can’t wait to see you all there!”
