Open day at Amesbury fire station this weekend

Amesbury Fire Station will be opening its doors to the public this weekend, with a fun filled day that promises something for everyone.

The open day will run between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday (14th October).

Following the sad death of Firefighter Dean Hardy, the open day was postponed but will be going ahead this weekend, with all funds raised being donated to the Fire Fighters Charity.

The event will feature real fire demonstrations such as hot oil fires, Blaze Bear will be making an appearance, and you can find out more about working for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Other attractions will include a silent auction, the chance to look at a variety of fire appliances, activities for children – including colouring, dressing up as a firefighter and hose squirting – as well as a range of refreshments, including an ice cream van.

A Fire Fighters Charity stand will also be on site, selling a number of items (including Blaze Bears!).

Amesbury Firefighter Andrew Duffey said: “This is a great way for our local community to find out more about its local fire station and what we do. We’d love to see as many people as possible, of all ages, come along and spend the day enjoying the demonstrations, activities, perhaps an ice cream or two, and hopefully leave with some essential fire and road safety knowledge.

“It’s also a great opportunity for anyone interested to talk to the crews about becoming an on-call firefighter.”
