New beginning for the City Council’s Grounds and Streetscene Teams

On 1 December 2022, all street cleaning and maintenance of the city’s parks and open spaces moved fully in-house and became the sole responsibility of City Council employees.

This followed an ending of contracts with Idverde, and several employees transferred to the in-house team, settling in well with our fab Streetscene and Grounds Teams. We are delighted with the expansion, and the team are continuing to do a great job of ensuring that our city’s streets are clean, the grounds are mowed, and the parks are looking green for the enjoyment of visitors, residents and wildlife.

Working in their brand new yellow uniform, the team have been enjoying using the range of high-spec electrically powered equipment around our city, which includes sweepers, buggies, strimmers, mowers and more. The new equipment produces zero emissions, making them environmentally friendly, and the low noise levels mean a pleasanter environment for the team and the general public.

Our new Grounds Operations Supervisor, Graham Sellwood, who joined us during the expansion, said, “The team have done such a good job throughout the changeover, and we have all been welcomed and felt part of the Council’s team from day one. It has been a great start to the New Year, and we are all working hard to achieve a high standard of service for the community of Salisbury”.

One of the Leaders of the City Council, Cllr Victoria Charleston, said, “I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new members of the Grounds and Streetscene Teams who have joined us over the past month. They play a vital role in keeping our city tidy and inviting; I encourage everyone to do their bit by using our litter bins and working together for a cleaner, greener Salisbury.”
