Meet the contractor delivering the Station Forecourt scheme

Residents and businesses are being offered the opportunity to meet the contractor delivering the Salisbury Station Forecourt scheme.

Station Forecourt is the second scheme due to the £9 million investment in Salisbury City Centre from the government’s Future High Streets Fund.

It aims to enhance the Station Forecourt area through improved landscaping and tree planting, street furniture, and wayfinding, along with more sustainable travel facilities such as a bus interchange.

In addition, a combination of wall-mounted and pole-mounted lighting is proposed to provide safe levels of lighting for the forecourt users.

The ‘Meet the Contractor’ public event will be held today in the empty retail unit off the booking hall at Salisbury Railway Station.

Residents, traders and businesses can pop along anytime between 2 pm and 7 pm to meet the team from Wiltshire Council and Milestone Infrastructure, see the latest plans and find out more about the scheme and how it will be delivered.

Cllr Tamara Reay, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Assets, said: “One of our key priorities is to have vibrant, well-connected communities, and the redesign of the forecourt area will make it more attractive and accessible for visitors and residents.

“These improvements aim to enhance the public realm and improve wayfinding to provide a welcoming arrival point to encourage tourists and visitors to the city centre to stay longer and spend more of their money in our local independent shops, cafes and restaurants which this modern cathedral city is renowned for.”

“We recognise the works will cause some disruption to local people and businesses. We would, therefore, encourage local people to attend this event to find out more at an early stage and to ask any questions they may have.”

Lewis Cowley, Milestone Infrastructure’s Regional Director, said: “We have been working with Wiltshire Council, Network Rail and South Western Railway for a number of months to develop the most efficient delivery solution. Our team will be happy to present the construction phasing plans at this event and be on hand to answer other questions related to the station forecourt construction works.”
