Local councillor stands down in Harnham

Councillor Eleanor Wills, who is a Salisbury City Cllr in West Harnham, is standing down.

Elected to the city council last July, Cllr Wills stands down as she moves to Swindon having met someone.

In a Facebook post yesterday, she said, “To avoid any differing stories, I am moving because I met someone. They won a key by-election in the town in July and, as a friend said to me, when you’re 90 it’s not the battles like this you’ll remember but the full life you lived. And a happy life is victory enough.

Cllr Wills was one of the loudest voices of the group opposing the City Council’s parish precept increase earlier this year. She has led the Conservative group on the council since February. She added, “I still think you pay too much council tax. I still think that there is work to be done to revitalise our city, and the current administration running Salisbury City Council is woefully out of touch.”

“I still think it’s too easy to blame Wiltshire Council for everything without demonstrating sufficient leadership by putting genuine alternatives forward which offer our city its best possible future”.

She ended the post by thanking her Conservative colleagues in and around Salisbury by saying, “The Conservative family here is strong, and we are served by a fantastic MP in John Glen.”

Cllr Sven Hocking will take over the leadership of the Conservative Group on Salisbury City Council.
