Local businesses drive technology innovation across Salisbury

Salisbury-based companies TechB and Lamway and Bath-based TekTowr are offering a new solution for a public wifi system.

With most schools and businesses relying on internet-based apps for work, it is hard to believe that there are still 1.5 million homes in the UK without internet access.

Combined with an increased cost of living, expensive monthly broadband subscriptions make internet connectivity unobtainable to many.

Local tech companies TechB, TekTowr and Lamway have joined forces to fix this and intend to deliver affordable internet to homes and high streets. Working together, they have developed an innovative solution to provide low-cost, reliable public wifi whilst putting money back into consumers’ pockets.

Chris Thompson, CEO of meshii wifi, commented, “We believe that freedom of wifi access is a fundamental human right. Meshii wifi seeks to level the playing field and connect every person on the planet to a joined-up public wifi network governed by the people, for the people.”

Meshii public wifi is a decentralised network built by participants linking their device to a meshii hub to share a portion or all of its internet to help build the public wifi network. Participants with a device will be rewarded and receive money in their digital wallet to offset costs or buy coffee!

Chris Thompson & Andy North, Chamber of Commerce directors and industry leaders in the technology sector, were keen to see the residents of Salisbury be the first to benefit from the new community-controlled public wifi.

Individuals and businesses in Salisbury will have the unique opportunity to own a meshii hub and start earning. The devices will enable the community to come together to build something new, igniting a new wave of technological invention within Salisbury and, most importantly, bridging the digital divide.

Andy North, CMO of meshii wifi, commented, “We have successfully developed a prototype meshii hub designed for securely sharing internet into a large-scale network of connected devices. Whilst we have carried out small-scale testing, we are now eager to trial this in a real-world, large-scale setting.”

Register your interest online today for a chance to receive one of one hundred meshii hubs being given away for free. Join the wifi revolution and help to put reliable, high-speed, low-cost internet in the hands of those who need it most!
