Late drama as Salisbury draw away at Gosport Borough

Two late goals provided late drama as Gosport snatched a draw just two minutes after Salisbury thought they had won the game.

Josh Hedges had given Salisbury a late lead in the 90th minute, but just two minutes later, BradleyTarbuck levelled the game for Gosport, with the game ending 1-1.

Salisbury had to make changes going into the game; the notable absentee was Dan Fitchett, who had picked up a knock in training earlier in the week.

The first half was a fairly uneventful affair, with both defences on top. However, Salisbury’s goalkeeping misfortune continued as Harry Lee was forced off injured midway through the half.

He was replaced by Alex Rutter, who deputised well between the sticks.

Again the second half didn’t produce too many chances, but both sides had penalty shouts in quick succession. First, a Gosport cross appeared to hit Robinson’s hand on its way into the box, but the referee wasn’t convinced.

Then Salisbury thought a foul on Noah Coppin might have just been inside the box, but the referee gave a free-kick right on the edge.

The game then did spring into life as the game headed for injury time. First, Salisbury took the lead in the 90th minute when Josh Hedges stole in at the back post to prod home.

It only took two minutes for Gosport to respond, and they did from a deep corner that found its way to Bradley Tarbuck to tuck the ball home at the back post.

A draw between the second and third-placed sides was probably fair on the balance of play but allowed Chesham United to extend their lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 away at Sholing.

Up next for Salisbury is the visit of bottom-of-the-table Didcot Town on Saturday (24th February) for a 3 pm kick-off. Tickets can be bought on the Salisbury FC website – https://salisburyfc.co.uk/tickets/
