Last-minute pain for Salisbury

Salisbury FC were denied a point by a late Chesham United goal deep into injury time on Saturday.

The sides had been level at halftime with goals from Calvin Brooks first for Salisbury before Gibbons levelled things up.

Before the game, there was an immaculately deserved Act of Remembrance with a wreath being laid on the centre circle before 2 minutes silence.

Salisbury started the game brightly and were in front after only 7 minutes. Calvin Brooks was the man in the right place at the right time, heading home a corner.

However, the lead didn’t last long, with Chesham finding the net 7 minutes later. Gibbons curing a shot beyond Gerard Benfield.

With the sides level at halftime, the second half was a niggly affair, with yellow cards being shown to players on both sides. There wasn’t a huge amount of chances created at either end.

There was a sting in the tail, though. Steve Brown found himself on the end of a good cross in from the right and found the top corner with a good header after 93 minutes.

Salisbury were unable to muster a response in the dying moments of the game, and it will certainly feel like two points lost to Brian Dutton and his side.

The Whites now find themselves 11th in the table with 22 points from their 17 games.

Salisbury next face Yate Town at the Ray Mac on Saturday 19th November – a 3 pm kick-off.
