How to vote in the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner election

Swindon and Wiltshire’s rerun of the Police and Crime Commissioner election will take place on the 19th of August 2021.

As previously reported by Love Salisbury, the original vote took place on 6th May 2021 but the elected candidate, Jonathan Seed, was unable to take up the position because of a historic driving conviction.

The role of a Police and Crime Commissioner is to oversee how crime is tackled in a police force area. Their aim is to reduce crime and ensure the police are effective.

The candidates standing in this election are:

Junab Ali (Labour and Cooperative Party)
Julian Henry Malins (Reform UK)
Mathew Brian George Felton (Liberal Democrats)
Mike Rees (Independent)
Philip Wilkinson (Conservative)

You can find the manifestos from each of the crime and commissioner candidates here.

Here’s how you can vote:

In-person at a polling station
If you are registered to vote, a poll card will be sent to you before the election. The details of your polling station and its opening times will be on the card.

It’s not vital that you bring your poll card with you to vote, although it will help the staff at the polling station if you bring it with you.

Ask someone to vote by proxy on your behalf
You can ask someone to vote on your behalf by a proxy vote. Proxy vote applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday 11th August 2021.

You can return your completed proxy vote application to Wiltshire Council via email: voting@wiltshire.gov.uk or via post: Electoral Services, County Hall, Bythesea Road, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, BA14 8JN.

Vote by post
If you have already applied for a postal vote, you can vote by post.
