Drop-in sessions planned across Wiltshire for Deafblind Awareness Week

People wanting to find out more information about the work of Wiltshire Council’s Hearing and Vision Team can speak to the team at drop-in sessions from Tuesday next week.

The team will be available to talk about the signs of dual sensory loss/deafblindness and the support available to those living with dual sensory loss.

The team is touring the county during Deafblind Awareness Week which is from 26 June to 2 July.

They will be at the following venues to answer any questions and share more advice about the service:

Tuesday 27 June – Atrium at County Hall in Trowbridge from 10am – 12 noon

Wednesday 28 June – Reception area at Monkton Park, Chippenham from 10am – 12 noon

Thursday 29 June – Atrium at Bourne Hill from 10am – 12 noon

Cllr Jane Davies, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “The Hearing and Vision Team carry out valuable work to help and support people to cope with their diagnosis.

They can offer advice on getting back to independence and rehabilitation as well as information around disability benefits or managing at work. During this important national week our team will be around the county and I’d encourage people to drop in and speak to them and find out more about the support available.”

The Hearing and Vision team provides a range of services to people who are blind, have limited or impaired sight, are deaf or have an acquired hearing loss.

They also help people who are deafblind, which is also known as dual sensory impairment (a person who has a significant combination of hearing and sight loss).

If you are experiencing problems with day-to-day living, such as using a telephone, preparing meals or being active in the community, the Hearing and Vision team can help.

People with a diagnosed hearing loss can drop into the Hearing and Vision Resource Centre at Southbroom Road, Devizes, every Tuesday from 1 pm – 4 pm.

The centre, next door to the leisure centre, can offer support and advice to help with independence and rehabilitation. More details are available at https://adults.wiltshire.gov.uk/Services/62/Hearing-and-Vision-T
