Council to look at options to replace eco bike and car share company

Wiltshire Council have confirmed that they will look into options to replace Co Bikes and Co Cars to provide e-bike and e-car hire in the city.

The company had installed a dock at both Salisbury railway station and Wiltshire College and had expected to expand across the city and add more docking stations.

They had also provided e-car hire from locations within the city, and along with the bikes, this option has now been removed from the city.

Cllr Caroline Thomas, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We are saddened to hear that Co Cars and Co Bikes have ceased trading. Co Cars operated Car Club vehicles from Salt Lane and York Road whilst Co Bikes provided e-bike facilities at several sites in Salisbury city centre including Salisbury Railway Station and Wiltshire College and University Centre.

“The Council will explore opportunities for other organisations to provide car club and e-bike facilities in the city.”

The company was already established in Exeter and had been pursuing an expansion plan across the South West and announced it had ceased trading at the end of last week.
