Today (25th March 2022) is World Waffle Day and to celebrate, Love Salisbury spoke to the man behind Salisbury’s specialist Waffle shop, Alex Nettle.
“What better way to celebrate World Waffle Day than at your local Coffee and Waffle House on Salisbury High St with an authentic Liége Waffle. To celebrate, we will be giving away a free cup of our fabulous illy coffee with every waffle bought today.
“Our waffles are baked fresh every day. The dough that we use, that’s right, dough not batter, is made in Belgium, to the same family recipe that the original artisan bakers were using 70 years ago.
“As we bake, the sugar pearls inside the dough caramelise to give a delicious sweet crunch on the outside with a lovely, warm doughy middle,” explains Alex.
Wafflemeister has a variety of toppings for sweet-toothed customers and for those looking for something more savoury.
“The Strawberry Heaven is always going to be our best seller. We top it with freshly whipped cream, we don’t use squirty cream, we use a patisserie cream machine so it is all freshly whipped, Belgium chocolate, juicy strawberries and a Liége waffle.
“Also a popular choice at the moment is a waffle topped with strawberries, blueberries and bacon so it is sweet and savoury. I would pair that with a freshly squeezed juice or an illy coffee, or if it’s the weekend, a glass of bubbly as it makes a great brunch dish,” said Alex.
“If you haven’t got a sweet tooth or you fancy something to go with our array of Italian and Belgian beers why not try a savoury waffle.
“Salmon Please, Chicken Avocado, Halloumi Pesto are all absolutely delicious. Everything at Wafflemeister is made fresh to order using the very best ingredients available.
“Anything you see on the menu can be tweaked, if you have a certain thing you love we can always add it to a waffle, just let us know,” added Alex.
