Wiltshire Council launch social media campaign to help communities take action on climate change

Wiltshire Council has launched a new #WiltsCanDoThis social media campaign to inspire communities across the county to take small actions in their day-to-day lives to make a difference and reduce their carbon emissions.

The council will be sharing ideas of actions that residents and businesses can take to improve the impact they have on the climate. The campaign will help with big and small suggestions to give people inspiration on ways they can play their part and make changes that will help the climate.

The campaign will be focusing on the seven main delivery themes that the council has identified as priorities in its draft Climate Strategy, in order to lower carbon emissions in Wiltshire including:

  • Transport
  • Built environment
  • Waste
  • Green economy
  • Energy generation, storage and distribution
  • Natural environment, food and farming
  • Carbon neutral council

Cllr Nick Botterill, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, said, “This Great Big Green Week, we are urging residents and businesses across Wiltshire to support our campaign and make choices to help reduce their carbon emissions. In February 2019 we acknowledged the climate emergency and set our goal to make Wiltshire carbon neutral by 2030.

“We know many communities and businesses in Wiltshire are already taking some great steps to help tackle climate change, but there is more that we all need to do to create an even greater impact.

“We have launched the #WiltsCanDoThis campaign to inspire people with suggestions of things they can do towards supporting the climate, and there are plenty of small actions people can take in their everyday lives that can all contribute to helping our county to become carbon neutral.

“We would like everyone to make a commitment to supporting climate change in Wiltshire and we can all play our part – #WiltsCanDoThis!”.

People can show their support on social media by using the campaign #WiltsCanDoThis when sharing any posts or ideas, and following the council’s channels where regular posts will be made: @WiltshireCouncil on Facebook, @WiltsCouncil on Twitter.

The council is currently also holding a consultation on its draft Climate Strategy and the Green and Blue Infrastructure Strategy which will help to shape the natural environment of Wiltshire. The consultations both launched on 1st September and are open until 17 October. Have your say here.
