Bumper month for babies at Salisbury District Hospital

August was a bumper month for babies at Salisbury District Hospital.

The data is now in and August 2021 has proven to be a bumper month for births at Salisbury District Hospital’s Maternity Unit.

The month saw 222 births, compared to 169 in August 2020 and more than the team had predicted.

Hannah Boyd, Interim Head of Maternity and Neonatal Services, commented, “It’s been a busy month for the Maternity Team, everyone has been worked so hard providing care to families over the summer months, and we have all been surprised at the number of babies born. It’s always a privilege for the team to help bring new life into the world“.

The hospital says that they can never be certain why some months are busier for births than others; as a team, they speculate on the reasons but August certainly took them by surprise.

The Maternity Service has recently opened a new Maternity Day Assessment Unit and further improvements will be opening soon.
