Bradbeers hope to open Salisbury store by the end of 2022

Bradbeers have confirmed that they hope to open a store in the former Debenhams building by the end of 2022.

The family run, independent business began in 1837 with a small drapery shop in Southampton. Now, Bradbeers have shops in Romsey, Hedge End, and New Milton, selling homeware, clothing, cosmetics, furniture and beds.

After Debenhamns closed in April 2020, Bradbeers expressed an interest in coming to the city in November 2020. Smith Bradbeer own the former Debenhams building on Blue Boar Row, and say they “remain committed to Salisbury”.

Now, the independent retailer “hope to be in a position to open a Bradbeers Department Store by the end of 2022.”

Speaking to Love Salisbury, Director of Bradbeers, Greg Davies said, “The unprecedented events of the past twenty months have led to a challenging time for the retail sector. As an independent business, we have faced these challenges with the resolve that has been in place since we started trading in 1837.

“We currently remain committed to Salisbury and, although our plans have inevitably had to be adjusted due to the current economic climate, we hope to be in a position to open a Bradbeers Department Store by the end of 2022 which will stand alongside our existing stores in Romsey, New Milton and Hedge End.”

Currently, the boarded up shopfront of Debenhams is being given a new lease of life by local art teacher Sam Redmill, who is painting an art mural on the shopfront.
