A huge step for Celebration Walk as walkers raise £12K for Salisbury Hospice Charity

On Sunday, 10th September, Hospice Supporters gathered in Salisbury City Centre to participate in the second Celebration Walk organised by Salisbury Hospice Charity.

Walking together with fellow members of the community, celebrating life and cherishing memories of loved ones.

Walkers participated in a five or ten-mile walk, which started and finished at The Guildhall in Salisbury. As registrations opened, walkers in aqua blue Celebration Walk t-shirts flurried in, and the afternoon included a wonderful performance from The Salisbury Pluckers, a ukulele band.

The music was followed by talks from Paula Flower, Head of Fundraising. A cherished memory from Nikki Spicer, Trustee of Salisbury Hospice Charity and a blessing from Kelvin Inglis, Rector of St. Thomas’s Church.

Alex from Kidz Love Fit joined us this year to engage the walkers in a warm-up fun dance routine to stretch the muscles ready for the walk, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, before Adam Burgess, Regional Director of our sponsor Apogee Corporation said the famous words, Three, Two, One, Go!

As the walkers began their journey around Salisbury City Centre, they were welcomed into St Thomas’s church to light a candle of remembrance.

At the Hospice, walkers were invited to tie a ribbon of their choosing around the representative Remembrance Tree.

At the finish line, walkers received their living medal, a packet of Forget Me Knot Seeds.

The funds raised from the Celebration Walk will enable the Hospice to continue providing vital, end-of-life care, which directly benefits patients and families within the community.

Salisbury Hospice Charity would like to thank all the participants, volunteers, and support we have received to put on this marvellous event. A special thank you to our wonderful sponsors, Apogee Corporation, who also brought along their fantastic branded water bottles for the walkers!

Moyra Rowney, Events Fundraiser, said: “It is always a privilege to be part of the team who put on the Celebration Walk, and this year was a wonderful, happy, sometimes emotional, occasion. To have raised over £12,000.00 with funds still coming in is astonishing, and rewarding and very, very humbling!”
