Woman pleads guilty to being involved in Homington burglary

A woman has pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods following a burglary at a home in Homington.

Anne Hewitt, 54, of Blandford Road, Coombe Bissett, appeared in court on Monday and will be sentenced on November 17.

Previously, Sonnie Kerley, 33, of Bishop Row, Longhedge, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for three years.

On May 17, at around 3.30 pm, Kerley was seen by neighbours targeting a house in the village.

He was then tracked by a member of the public, who was subsequently able to provide a detailed description of him.

Officers swiftly arrested Kerley, and the stolen property, which included cash and a sentimental gold chain, was returned to the victim.

Through enquiries, officers proved that Hewitt drove Kerley to the house he burgled and then drove him to Cash Converters, where she sold a gold necklace that Kerley had stolen. The necklace was of sentimental value as it belonged to the victim’s late wife.

Local Crime Investigator Beverley Sargent said: “This is positive news that Hewitt has now appeared before a court and pleaded guilty to her role in this burglary, which really had a lasting and traumatic impact upon the victim.

“Burglaries are a Force priority as we understand the significant impact they can have on those involved. The thought of someone in your home, looking through your personal belongings can leave you feeling vulnerable and violated.

“We will always take reported burglaries seriously. If you have been a victim of a burglary, please do not hesitate to contact us on 101.

“If a crime is in progress, always call 999.”
