Wiltshire Council Chief Executive set to leave his role

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council's Chief Executive, is set to move to Surrey Council Council this summer, leaving his position at Wiltshire Council.

Terence joined Wiltshire Council in 2011 and was appointed Chief Executive in June 2020.

Before this, he held several senior leadership roles, including Head of Service for Safeguarding, Associate Director for Children’s Services, Executive Director for Children and Families, Leisure and Communities, Corporate Services and HR & Organizational Development, and Chief Executive Officer for People.

Terence began his career as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) and then qualified as a social worker, taking up posts in children’s services at the London Borough of Lewisham, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and North Somerset Council.

Cllr Richard Clewer, Leader of Wiltshire Council, said: “Terence has been a fantastic leader throughout his time at Wiltshire Council, and I know I speak on behalf of all of us at the council when I say we wish him all the best for his new role at Surrey County Council. We will be very sorry to see him go, but he brings a wealth of experience, and I am sure he will be an asset to Surrey.

“Terence’s professionalism and passion as well as his willingness to face tough decisions head-on have all contributed to our success during his 13 years at Wiltshire Council and ensure that he leaves us in a strong position as one of the best unitary authorities in the country.

“We expect Terence to remain as Chief Executive until the summer, allowing us time to put plans in place for his replacement to be appointed.”
