Who will be responsible for the repair of Salisbury's Poultry Cross?

Salisbury's historic 14th-century Poultry Cross was damaged during a police pursuit and road traffic collision on Saturday 21st May, leaving residents questioning who will be responsible for the monument's repair.

The monument was damaged when a man driving an Audi A3 through the city failed to stop for police officers. Following a short pursuit, the vehicle collided with The Poultry Cross on Butcher Row causing damage to both the building and vehicle.

The Poultry Cross is owned by Salisbury City Council, and Love Salisbury understands that they will be responsible for overseeing its repair.

A spokesperson for Salisbury City Council said, "Following the incident on Saturday 21st May 2022 in which the monument was damaged, the City Council will oversee the safe repair of the monument with a Structural Engineer assessing the monument within the next few days. 

"The Council are assisting the police with their enquires."
