Whites beaten in Cornwall thanks to Tinner's Penalty

A Tyler Harvey penalty in the first half secured all three points against 10-man Salisbury on Non-League Day in Truro on Saturday.

The Whites started fast, with Finn Tonks and Dan Fitchett combining straight from the off to gain Salisbury possession in the host’s box. The chance eventually came to nothing after some good defending from the Cornish side.

The Tinners had the lion’s share of possession as the half progressed, but a solid backline kept the hosts at bay.

In the 38th minute, the Tinners took the lead via Tyler Harvey. The striker converted his spot kick, sending Byrne diving the wrong way. The penalty was awarded after Riley-Lowe went down in the box; the contact seemed minimal, if any.

Four minutes later, the hosts worked themselves into a threatening position in the Whites’ box. A ball was sent across the six-yard box, and for a moment, it looked as if Riley-Lowe had a tap-in, but a crucial Tonks boot turned the ball out for a corner.

Salisbury went into the break a goal down.

The pattern continued throughout the second half; title-chasing Truro were persistent in trying to break the Whites’ stubborn defensive shape down.

Dutton’s side kept their shape and offered the hosts no route through to Byrne’s goal.

In the 55th minute, the Wiltshire side broke away. Tonks found the run of Hedges with a long-aerial clip in behind the Tinners’ defence. Hedges plucked it out of the sky and attempted an audacious dinked effort as he spotted Lavercombe off his line, but the attempt was too high.

The remainder of the half didn’t produce the purest footballing display; very few chances came for either side.

The next notable action came when Hedges received his marching orders. The forward was deemed to have tripped a Truro player up, resulting in him receiving a second yellow card after being booked in the first half for dissent.

After four minutes of additional time, Tom Ellsmore sounded his whistle to end a disappointing afternoon for the Whites.

The Whites are back in action next Saturday as they welcome Tonbridge Angles to the RayMac for a 15:00 kick-off.
