‘Wave of Light’ event in Salisbury to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week

A Stars Appeal-funded event to support families who have sadly experienced the loss of a baby is taking place in Salisbury Cathedral Close on Tuesday (October 15th).

The ‘Wave of Light’ is being held to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week. Families are invited to come together and light a lantern to remember their babies.

It is taking place on the green in the Cathedral Close from 6:30 pm to 7:10 pm, next to the Angels in Harmony sculpture. If it is raining, the event will be held in the Cathedral Cloisters.

Lanterns will be lit at 6:45 pm and placed together before poems are read at 6:55 pm and a minute's silence at 7 pm.

The event is being organised by staff from the Stars Appeal Benson Suite. The Benson Suite within the Maternity Department at Salisbury District Hospital provides a dedicated, private space where families who sadly experience the death of a baby at birth can be cared for with their baby, away from the Labour Ward. The specialist suite helps ensure the time these families are able to spend with their baby is as precious, dignified and personal as possible.

Lanterns and battery candles will be available and there will be tags to write your own personal messages. Families can then take their lanterns home after the event. During the evening, poems will be read, and there will be a minute’s silence.
