A Salisbury primary school, described by many as “a caring family”, is celebrating after an excellent Ofsted report.
Broad Chalke CofE Primary School is delighted to have been rated ‘Good’ across all areas, with the curriculum being praised as “ambitious and engaging”.
The school’s values of respect, resilience, hope, and love are woven into every aspect of school life, Ofsted noted, with pupils speaking kindly to staff and each other. Broad Chalke, which has 199 pupils on roll, was observed as a “happy and welcoming” school, where staff are trusted.
Attendance is high and pupils behave sensibly, Ofsted said. The report added that many parents commented on the dedicated staff and the nurturing culture at the school. Staff ensure pupils feel supported and safe, with worry boxes for children to share concerns. Crumble, the school’s adored therapy dog, supports pupils with their social and emotional needs.
Ofsted also praised Broad Chalke’s high expectations, which was demonstrated in pupils’ quality of work. The report commended the school’s welcoming library and its collection of high-quality books, highlighting the school’s drive to nurture a love of reading among its pupils.
It added that children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are quickly identified and receive tailored support, ensuring they learn successfully alongside their peers.
Among other highlights:
- Staff value the training and collaborative opportunities provided by the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust, which the school joined in December 2023.
- The school’s focus on community engagement was applauded, with pupils contributing to society through charitable initiatives, including supporting a partner school in Uganda.
- Ofsted added that pupils also learn about democracy through school council elections.
Headteacher Heather Luft expressed her pride in the report. She said: “This glowing report is a testament to the dedication of our staff, who work tirelessly to provide the best education for our children. We’re extremely thankful to our supportive families and local community, and of course, our children who make us proud every day.”
Mark Lacey, Chief Executive of the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust said: “We are very proud to have Broad Chalke as part of our family of schools. Since joining us, Mrs Luft, her staff and the governors have shown great commitment to making their school the very best that it can be. They bring many great things to our Trust and we look forward to what the future will bring.”
