Trucks head to Thruxton for Convoy On The Plain weekend

The British Truck Racing Championship heads to Thruxton this weekend (8/9 July) when the Convoy on the Plain event takes place at the Hampshire circuit.

The huge 1000bhp machines will thrill spectators across the UK’s fastest race track at the two-day festival celebrating all things trucking with plenty on offer for families, including a grid walk, truck displays, a kids’ zone, and live music.

Heading to Hampshire, Ryan Smith tops the leaderboard in Division One in his Daimler, just six points ahead of Stuart Oliver in his Volvo. David Jenkins occupies the third spot in his MAN, followed by Bradley Smith.

Adam Bint has the advantage in Division Two, the more production-based machines, as they go to round three. He has an eight-point advantage over John Powell in the DAF, with Paul Rivett in his MAN third.

Qualifying for the series takes place on Saturday, followed by two races with a further three races on Sunday. Plenty of other racing action will also take place over the two-day festival.

The MORPHMY Caterham Graduates Racing Club will compete four times over the course of the weekend, with the Pickup Truck Racing Championship also battling it out for the honours in rounds 10, 11 and 12, with one race on Saturday and two on Sunday.

The low-cost Mini Challenge Clubsport Championship will be on track on Saturday and Sunday, as will the OT Publishing Coupe Cup with Toyo Tires, the single-make category for first and second-generation two-litre Hyundai Coupe machines.

On Saturday, the Kumho BMW Championship, featuring any production BMW sold in the UK, race for the honours, whilst on Sunday, it is the turn of the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club Championship.

Off the track, there will be a chance to meet the drivers and their machines with a grid walk and autograph session at 2.05 pm on Sunday and to get up close to some modern and vintage vehicles with the Show Truck Display. There will also be an all-action stunt arena showcasing some incredible skills and truck driving experiences.

There will be lots of entertainment for families, too, with The Kids’ Zone featuring a bouncy castle, fairground rides, stalls, face painting and circus skills. Free camping is also available, and live music will also provide a soundtrack to the weekend.

Tickets are available online via the Thruxton website www.thruxtonracing.co.uk, with the gates opening at 8 am on both days. Adult tickets are £18 on Saturday, £20 on Sunday, or a weekend ticket costs £36. Children 15 and under accompanied by an adult (max five children per responsible adult) are admitted to the circuit and paddock (providing the responsible adult is still accompanying them) free of charge.

Tickets are available for the grandstand, but these are separate tickets and do not allow admission to the circuit. Children aged five and under are permitted to sit on a parent/guardian's lap and are therefore admitted free of charge.
