A new play will premiere in the Oak Court within Salisbury’s Guildhall and will include a song recorded by Toyah Willcox exclusively for the performances.
Toyah Willcox, singer, songwriter, and television presenter, has recorded Blue Pearl for the performance of this exciting new courtroom drama written by Mike Doherty and Mark Thomas.
The music is by playwright and musician Mike Doherty, who approached Toyah during lockdown. Toyah donated her vocal recording to be played only during the performance of Blue Pearl vs Ten Mega-Corps during the prosecution evidence.
Mike said:” Of course, we are thrilled that Toyah Willcox generously agreed to perform the vocals for us; it brings even more excitement to the play.”
Mike Doherty explains the story: “A Prosecution Barrister concerned for her young twins takes on ten global corporations for poisoning the planet. Her novel legal strategy faces serious hurdles in the courtroom. Can she convince the judge to regard Planet Earth as a being called Blue Pearl entitled to legal protection?
“Can she prove the ten corporations are guilty of attempted murder by poisoning the planet? Their Defence Barrister takes steps never seen in a court before to wreck the prosecution case.
“The prosecution's toughest hurdle comes when the defence demand Blue Pearl attends court for cross-examination. Her determination not to be beaten leads to some surreal twists. Survival of the human race is at stake. The audience is the jury”.
These performances are going to be a double first. It will be the first time the song is played. It's the first performance of the play—a coupe for writers Mike Doherty and Mark Thomas, who perform with the Salisbury band Random Six.
