The Whites return to winning ways

Salisbury picked up their first league win of the calendar year with an impressive win away at Hanwell Town.

Brian Dutton's team's performances were improving, more players joined the ranks as Michael Fernandes joined the club, and supporters saw the return of Aaron McCreadie. Both players went straight into the starting lineup, replacing Dan Fitchett and Josh Carmichael.

Goals from Tobi Ogendega, James Plant and Dan Fitchett, two in the first half and one in the second, sent the travelling supporters home happy after a good display.

Salisbury started brightly, and home 'keeper, Matteo Salamon, was called into action in just the first minute, having to deal with a low shot from Brandon Goodship.

Both sides were creating chances, and Hanwell came closest to scoring the first, hitting both uprights of the Salisbury goal in the process.

Salamon was equal to the challenge again on 12 minutes, getting down well to deny James Plant.

Just a few minutes later, though, he could do nothing to stop Ogundega from heading home from a well-delivered Goodship corner.

Salisbury settled into their game, not creating too many chances until the 31st minute, when they doubled their lead.

The two players on loan from Port Vale combined as McDermot tried to feed Plant with a through ball that was initially blocked. Plant persisted, however, as the ball got stuck between the defenders feet. He then stole the ball and slotted a low shot beyond the 'keeper.

Salisbury thought they had added a third just before halftime when Michael Fernandes had the ball in the back of the net. The referee had already blown as the considered that Fernandes had taken the ball from the hands of Salamon.

The home side looked to fight back after halftime but were unable to take any of their chances. Matthew Mackenzie looked likely to score but fluffed his lines when well placed. The ball then broke to Hutchinson, who could only fire over from 12 yards out.

Salisbury then added to their tally and wrapped the game up on 75 minutes. Calvin Brooks laying on the chance for Dan Fitchett, who made no mistake with a nice finish after some good movement.

Hanwell thought they had a consolation late on, but the assistant referee's flag denied Hutchinson.

Salisbury return with a well-deserved three points and now look forward to the rearranged Wiltshire Premier Sheild game at home to Highworth Town. It's two home games in quick succession for the Whites as Tiverton Town are the visitors on Saturday, 25th February.

Salisbury Women FC, though, were not able to continue their fine form losing 2-1 away at Mudeford. Leanne Griffiths-Lower getting the goal for the Whites.
