The new voice of news in Salisbury

Salisbury's local radio station is delighted to announce the appointment of Beth Doherty as Head of News and Content.

Previously the assistant editor at popular local paper New Valley News, Beth joins Salisbury Radio next month to oversee the delivery of news, information and stories of interest on the radio and across all the Love Salisbury digital platforms.

Beth's career highlights include interviewing local inspirational women such as Zelda Perkins and Tracy Daszkiewicz, investigating why the city's nightlife was forgotten during the Covid-19 pandemic, and interviewing former Top Gear presenter James May about his new pub.

Having previously written for The Telegraph, investigating Greta Thunberg's 'Gretwork' of friends, Pret-a-Manger's vegan menu for Time Out London and writing branded content for Cosmopolitan magazine, Beth says she's 'excited' to join south Wiltshire and west Hampshire's new media enterprise.

In studying English Language and Linguistics at Sussex University her dissertation was on 'how grime music has influenced youth slang in Salisbury'.

Beth says, "I am super excited to join the team at Salisbury Radio who are just as passionate about our local area as I am. I look forward to telling your stories and keeping our listeners and readers up to date with all things Salisbury."

The former St Edmund's student will be working with the growing team of journalists and content creators based at the radio station that includes Sarah Gisbourne who specialises in creating and promoting events for families and leading broadcast journalist trainer Kevin Gover. She will complement the bulletins from Salisbury Radio's national news provider Radio News Hub with concise, useful and 'useable' local news 'on the hour'.

"I knew from the moment we first spoke that Beth was the right person for the job", says radio station managing director David Harber. "She outshone the other 31 candidates with her passion and enthusiasm for the city.

"Beth instinctively 'gets' and understands the area and knows what matters to the people who live, work and play here. I think Beth will become one of the city's most important figures in terms of keeping people accurately and consistently informed of everything that's great about our city."

A big music fan with a pet cat called Mr Darcy, Beth of Bishopdown Farm uncovered what your pet's sleeping position means for Country Living magazine. She was also the features editor for the Sussex Tab where she covered everything from hangover-free prosecco to underground terror attacks.

Passionate about independent businesses and a massive foodie, she is a self-taught podcaster, where she has previously showcased the best of Salisbury on her Instagram blog along with her 'Wine Time Salisbury' podcast featuring Andy Maul from Maul's Wine and Cheese Bar
