The Cathedral Hotel and The Old Mill have gone into administration

It has been confirmed that The Cathedral Hotel in Salisbury and The Old Mill in Harnham have gone into administration.

The two prominent Salisbury sites closed without explanation last week when signs appeared in the windows informing the public that they would be "closed until further notice".

Speaking to Love Salisbury, Operations Manager for Old Sarum Hotels, Tommy Roberts, confirmed that the company had gone into administration.

He said, "We would like to thank all our customers for the last 15 years of support. We would also like to thank all our staff for all their hard work and loyalty - they have traded through the novichok era, through lockdowns and restrictions and I would like to thank them and wish them all the best for their futures."

Both The Cathedral Hotel on Milford Street, Salisbury and The Old Mill were popular destinations in Salisbury, with The Cathedral being one of the few venues in the city with a dancefloor and a late licence.

Tommy continued, "The Cathedral was popular for sport and part of the late-night circuit, as well as the hotel side of it and The Mill was popular because of its location and it had a very warm and loyal regulars pub kind of feeling.

"I have got some great memories of both sites. Particularly things like the World Cup and the Euros at The Cathedral and various events we have done and all the people that have supported us through the late night sector and the sport and even those people who popped in regularly for a drink or a bite to eat.

"At The Old Mill I have some lovely memories up there with some good garden parties and when we were coming out of lockdown that was pretty much the only good garden there was when Boris said we could open on the 4th July."

While Tommy does not know what the future for the two sites holds, he hopes to see them reopen.

"I have no idea about the future of the venues, all those kinds of things are in the hands of the people completing the process of administration.

"I am sure it won’t be long before they reopen. Obviously, I would like to see them reopen and for the team members who once worked in them to maybe be reemployed. I hope they both get reestablished.

"I think both businesses are quite iconic within Salisbury and it’s a shame what has happened. Hopefully, they will be given a new lease of life at some point and thanks to all that came on our journey over the last 15 years," added Tommy.

At the moment, Tommy Roberts is still handling any issues surrounding cancelled hotel reservations. He will be in touch with those who have made a booking.
