It is estimated almost 2,000 experienced the biggest event so far in the city’s annual event calendar.
Visitors to the Market Square celebrated the city mayor’s ‘big birthday bash’ which was also a fundraiser for the mayor’s chosen charity this year, Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The Semington based charity requires £4.5m in funding each year to provide the lifesaving service.
Festivities under clear skies and temperatures in the mid-20s kicked off at lunchtime with Salisbury Radio’s Craig Hicks hosting the event.
‘In Colour’, ‘3MO’ and popular local band ‘Love is Enough’ performed on the big stage throughout the afternoon as part of Salisbury Live with cover bands, ‘Solarbird’ and ‘Tramps and Amps’ concluding the event.
Harnham East Councillor Sven Hocking used his speech on stage to thank everyone involved, including Colin Holton from Salisbury Live who arranged the day’s entertainment and the team from Dinton event company All The Kit who provided the stage, sound and lighting and ran ‘a truly flawless event’.
The team from Venture Security, plus the many volunteers who helped on the day were also thanked.
Cllr Hocking mentioned his ‘pride at being the mayor’ of the city, himself being a New Sarumite. The former Bishops’ schoolboy is the city’s 763rd Mayor.
Ed and James from semi-temporary bar Feast and Flavour were swamped with customers, as was the team from charter 1227.
